Dr Susana Diaz
Dr Susana Diaz trained in Functional Medicine in the prestigious Institute of Functional Medicine.
She has 27 years experience as an NHS Consultant in General and Renal Failure Surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She holds a Masters in Surgical Science from Imperial College and a Masters in Health Policy from the London School of Economics
Susana is a practitioner that understands both conventional and functional approaches to health
Throughout years of practising conventional medicine , she found herself wondering if there was a better way to address chronic illness by understanding the root causes of disease.
She thought there could be another way of utilising her skills and practising Medicine in a different way
She has a particular interest in what she calls ageing gracefully, women’s health , chronic renal failure and diabetes, and supportive cancer care
I was a busy practising clinician and mum, going through a stressful part of my life, when perimenopause hit quite early an unexpectedly. Up until then, I had been energetic, and although always struggled with diets and weight, was an overall fit forty something woman. Hormonal changes left me exhausted and sluggish.
This led me to investigate and introduce /implement other strategies that didn’t involve hormonal therapy, having been misinformed by my GP about HRT
A combination of lifestyle changes as well as targeted nutrition and natural supplements over the following years have me now looking and importantly feeling better than I ever did in my early 40s
I believe nutrition , movement, mindfulness and a sense of purpose, community and cohesion are key to a healthy and hopefully , longer life
Working alongside Paola, Susana uses her knowledge of general medicine and surgery alongside her training in nutrition, genomics and lifestyle medicine to help a wide range of patients to restore and optimise their health.
